Posted by the War Artists’ Advisory Committee to RAF South Cerney to observe and record the activities of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, Dunbar was limited to non-operational centres and had to rely on portraiture to complete her portfolio. Nothing is known about this Airwoman apart from the inverted chevron on her sleeve, awarded for Good Conduct. The finished portrait, Portrait of an Airwoman 1944 RAF Museum, Hendon, shows additionally her engagement ring.
