Watercolour
At the time of painting it was the frequent custom of government offices, prestigious department stores, museums, galleries, gentlemen’s clubs etc. to employ ex-servicemen, preferably suitably uniformed sergeants, to stand at the main entrance of such premises to welcome clients and customers. Dunbar has chosen to record one such during a period in which she experimented with water-colour, an unusual medium for such painting.
