Traditionally Allegories of painting show the main protagonist as a women, inspired by a female muse though, to reinforce Patriarchal norms, overseen by a wise old man.  One of the most  Allegory’s of Painting, is Artemisia Gentileschi’s Self Portrait,  La Pittura, also known as Autoritratto in veste di Pittura
