Pen and Ink on paper
In 1937 Dunbar was commissioned by Country Life magazine to design its 1938 Gardener’s Diary, which featured line drawing personifications of the twelve months. She subsequently used several of these in her largest canvas to date, An English Calendar, a 5 x 5 square with alternate squares occupied by the months, and the central square by a symbolised sun. An English Calendar is perhaps Dunbar’s finest purely decorative canvas.
