In 1937 Dunbar was commissioned to design 1938 Gardener’s Diary, a satellite production of the magazine Country Life. She chose appropriate texts for each month, illustrating each month with an associated personification, in this case a doughty lady representing September.
In addition she contributed vignettes and a frontispiece. Some of her 1938 Gardener’s Diary images she later worked up into oils.
