Hood shows himself reflected in the mirror behind his wife, as well as in the foreground champagne bottle.  

The composition references elements of Manet’s celebrated Bar au Folies Bergere

Ernest Burnett
Hood
1932 - 1988

Painter and printmaker born in Edinburgh known mainly for his street scenes of Glasgow. He studied and later taught at Glasgow School of Art and was a member of the Glasgow Art Club and on occasion exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and for more than 30 years at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts.
