Literature: Gardeners’ Choice, by Evelyn Dunbar and Charles Mahoney, with a previously unpublished preface by Edward Bawden and with a new afterword by Christopher Campbell-Howes, Persephone Books, London 2015. Dunbar’s vignette of a wheelbarrow (identical to the one used in the garden at The Cedars, the Dunbar family home in Strood) laden with wicker basket, trug and seed boxes, appears on page 190 of Gardeners’ Choice.
