Retiring in 1960 at 61, Adnams channeled her energy into evolving her art. With a second home in France, she produced paintings and drawings influenced by the Provence landscape and beyond.
In 1930 Adnams started attending life classes at Derby School of Art. Her extra ordinary facility for drawing was much remarked upon, (one teacher remarking that she ‘drew like a man, direct with no rubbing out, quoted by Ray Gosling, Marion Adnams, A Retrospective, Midland Group Gallery 1971).
