DESCRIPTION

Provenance:
The estate of the photographer, by descent.

H. Scott Orr (1881-1972) was one of the first photographers to document aerial warfare. The rare large glass plate negative documents the `Theatreland Raid` of 13 October 1915, when five airships dropped bombs on central London damaging the Lyceum Theatre and surrounding streets. It pre-dates Orr`s famous series of images documenting the destruction of the German Zeppelin SL-11 which is notable for being the first Zeppelin to be shot down during WI.

Series of photographs, refnr 10072
