Lilian Whitehead was born in Bury, Lancashire, England in September 1894. Her father, Thomas Lewis Whitehead, was a newspaper proprietor and publisher.

She studied at Manchester School of Art; the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London; and at the British School in Rome. Between 1920 and 1934

Lilian Whitehead exhibited at the Baillie Gallery, New English Art Club, and Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in London; and at the Royal Scottish Academy in

Edinburgh.

She was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers (A.R.E.) in 1921, and was awarded the Prix de Rome the same

year. She lived in London and Chichester, Sussex.

Example of Whitehead’s work are included in the permanent collections of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, and the British Museum in London.
