1879 - 1955

Arthur Rigden Read is a colour woodcut artist, awarded a gold medal at the International Printmakers’ Society, Los Angeles in 1926.

Born and christened Arthur Robert Read in Southwark and later adopted the name of ‘Rigden’ in favour of Robert. Later he traveled in Japan and as a result several of his images are distinctly oriental in their design and appearance.
Arthur Rigden Read showed his work at the Beaux Arts Gallery, RGI, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, RA, Redfern Gallery and RWS.
His work is in the collections of the BM, Hastings Museum and Art Gallery and the V&A.
