Bolam’s Neo-Romantic studies are richly evocative of the landscape of the post-war years. He was especially inspired by the landscape of the Chilterns, where he lived until the mid 1950s, and thereafter the Cambridgeshire/Essex borders. In spite of his close stylistic affinity to Piper Bolam maintained that he his visual own language had evolved independently of any influence.
