Watercolour and linocut. – Circa 1950
These designs were intended for dress fabrics or wall coverings and upholstery designs. Some were entered for national design awards.
With Infinity Script, Amy Finney continues her exploration of symbolic pattern and print as language. Alternating between spirals and looping figure-eights, the composition echoes ancient glyphs or cosmic diagrams—each tile a microcosm, vibrating with symmetry and motion. The recurring “8” motif evokes infinity, while the spirals suggest cycles, inward journeys, or the mapping of time itself. Finney’s precise linocut technique enhances the rhythmic harmony of the design, inviting viewers to consider the connection between visual repetition and meaning.
This work reflects Finney’s interest in abstraction rooted in myth and craft, using printmaking to gesture toward something timeless—ritual, knowledge, and the quiet power of form.
