This study was presented as part of Ann Newland’s successful Rome/
Abbey Major Scholarship which Newland won in 1938/9 whilst studying at
the Byam Shaw
School, (1936-39, under Ernest Jackson). During World War II she was
involved in camouflage,
then taught in Scotland. Signed her work, which was mainly large,
decorative canvases. A.N. She was influenced especially by the work of
Andrea Mantegna. She showed at the RA, RSA and elsewhere.
