Marjorie Lilly was born in London and studied at the Slade, she met Walter Sickert in 1917 when she had a studio in the same building as him. They became closely associated and she used to accompany him on his quest to paint the perfect interior. Lilly exhibited widely at the Baillie Gallery, London Salon, New English Art Club and Royal Society of British Artists. Sadly, much of her work was destroyed when he r flat was bombed during the Second World War. Lilly wrote ‘Sickert: The Painter and his Circle’, which was published in 1971.

Painter, writer and printmaker born in London, who studied at the Slade school where her peers included Wendela Boreel and Christiana Cutter. In 1917, she met Walter Sickert and she held a joint exhibition with Boreel in the 1920’s and 30’s. She showed mainly at the Baillie Gallery as well as at the LG, NEAC, RA, London Salon, RBA and ROI. During World War II she worked as an Arts Council lecturer. Her paintings were clearly influenced by Sickert. Her work was included in the Sladey Ladies exhibition held at the Parkin Gallery in 1986.
